As well as providing innovative technology, we recognise that organisations need expert support to help culturally embed what is essentially a new approach to measuring and improving employee engagement. Numerous companies now offer the technology to run more frequent employee surveys but a new process alone cannot change organisational culture; rather, we need to consider those ingrained mindsets and behaviours which present a potential barrier and to start challenging them accordingly. And that is where our People Science team lead the way!
Due to our growth and an increasing demand for expert support, we are now recruiting at the graduate level, for a Junior People Scientist to support our People Science team in the work we do with our customers.

We may be a small(ish) business based in the North East, but we are starting to have a global reach, with our People Science team recently presenting to Amazon out in the USA.

Reporting into – and working closely with – the Director of People Science, you’ll play a key role in supporting the successful delivery of Hive’s People Science proposition, which is grounded in the latest thinking from the world of Occupational Psychology. You will help to coordinate large-scale projects, interact with senior stakeholders, and have the chance to get stuck into data analysis and desk-work. All for a customer base which includes fantastic businesses and household names, such as River Island, Travelodge, Shop Direct, and BrewDog.
On top of this, you will have the opportunity to go out and shadow the senior members of the People Science team, continuously developing your skills and experience, and shaping your own future role along the way!
Where you can make a huge difference!
Based on your core strengths and interests, you will be able to get heavily involved – and develop your skills – across some, or all, of the following areas:
Understanding customer requirements: Working with our customers from the beginning of their partnership with Hive, to explore where they will most benefit from our support. This will include scheduling calls and attending meetings with our customers to understand their needs and requirements, explaining the People Science proposition and where our expertise can help customers to drive real impact whilst using the Hive platform.
You will have the opportunity to track and coordinate the ongoing delivery of these projects from this point on, ensuring the People Science team operate smoothly and efficiently.
Data analysis: A key part of our proposition is to provide our customers with insights, trends, and reflections in the form of report packs following their internal surveys. You will access the Hive platform and use data analytics software (such as SPSS, R, and Metabase) to deep dive into the data and ensure our customers understand what levels of engagement look like across the whole – and parts – of their business; as well as the drivers behind this data. Based on your work, the People Science team will be able to provide customers with recommendations on how to drive cultural change across their business, all for the benefit of their workforce – some legacy to leave behind right?!
Community: Building a community of best practice for our customers is part of the support offering. You can help them share ideas and best practice, bringing people together virtually and practically; such as through the coordination of open People Science workshops and other Hive-led events.
Content: You will have the opportunity to work with our internal Content Strategist and external partners to contribute to a range of publications – providing data from your research into Hive’s dataset to contribute to blogs, white papers and articles – strengthening the Hive brand and building your own personal profile along the way!
Developing your skills: Continuous improvement is part of our culture and we’re not prepared to compromise. If self-development isn’t one of your strong points, Hive isn’t for you.
Operations: At all times, you’ll uphold all of Hive’s policies and procedures, including those related to information security. Given the sensitivity of the data you will work with, you will also be required to adhere to ethical guidelines around client and employee confidentiality
Learning & Development: You’ll keep up to date with the latest approaches, thought leadership and research regarding employee engagement, business psychology and HR.

Pitching: We’re awesome when we pitch and as part of the role you might want to go out and meet prospective customers alongside members of our sales team – to help build confidence in the product and the People Science proposition.
Product Development: As a passionate student of the workplace culture and engagement space, you will likely be interested in shaping the evolution of our product. Working with our talented developers, you will have the chance to get involved in conversations around new product features and ongoing plans to improve the analytics and reporting capabilities of the platform.
Conferences & events: You will have the opportunity to attend a wide range of conferences and events. This will include networking and hosting conversations at our exhibition stands, as well as soaking up the content from speaker sessions held throughout the day. And, if you enjoy public speaking, you’ll get the support and development you need to deliver your own presentations one day!
You will be a recent MSc Occupational Psychology (or similar) graduate, with a real passion and interest in the areas of employee engagement and organisational culture. You will certainly need to feel comfortable and confident working with data and statistical platforms, with the ability to spot key trends and insights that can be pulled out into customer-facing reports and presentations. Any experience working with survey data, or within the fields of HR, consultancy, or business will be an advantage; but is certainly not essential.
You will be confident in your ability to host conversations and build professional relationships, as well as being able to listen and understand customer requirements. Strong administrative and project management skills will also support your success in this role.
You’ll need to be prepared to travel to some cool (and some not so cool) places to work with customers and attend events. A driving licence isn’t necessary, but a passport is.
You’ll be expected to work autonomously and will have the opportunity to make decisions independently without any micro-management. Having said that, you will catch up regularly with the Director of People Science to ensure you get the support you need, as well as the opportunities to develop and progress.
